Contents: --------- * Before You Install * System Hardware Requirements * System Software Requirements * Upgrading VisualStat * Installation from a CD * Installation from Downloaded Files * Key Features of VisualStat .NET * Import SPSS and SAS DataBase * How to Contact VisualStat Computing Before You Install ------------------ - IMPORTANT: Check the ReadMe text file that accompanies the product for information about upgrading from a previous version of VisualStat. - Exit or close all applications that are running to prevent file-locking conflicts - You must be a system administrator or have update privileges for the registry key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE] and [HKEY_CURRENT_USER]. These privileges are required to update the registry with the new informations being installed. See your system administrator if you are unsure. System Requirements ---------------------------- - Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 SP6 - Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 - 128 MB RAM (256 MB RAM recommended) - Mouse or tablet - 800 x 600 screen resolution (1024 x 768 recommended) - 65,536 color depth - 250 MB hard disk space The amount of drive space necessary for installing VisualStat depends on previous components installed on your system. - Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher - Microsoft .NET Framework The .NET Framework version 1.1 (named 1033dotnetfx.exe in the root directory of the installation package) is a component of the Microsoft Windows® operating system used to run Windows-based applications. This component is automatically installed by VisualStat. Additional Software Requirements -------------------------------- - MS Help 2 Runtime, available for download from MSDN Developer Center. This component is required if you want to use VisualStat Integrated Help. You can also display VisualStat NET help in html format (HTML File). MS Help 2.0 Runtime files must be installed before you can view MS Help 2 help files and collections. Currently the only way to get the Help 2 Runtime files onto a PC is to install the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK. You must install the Microsoft .NET Framework prior to installing the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK - Microsoft® Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7 or later MDAC is a set of software components that are used to provide applications a means to access data from various data storage sources, with a focus on access to Microsoft SQL Server™. You can import data to VisualStat from most data sources, including SAS, SPSS, Excel, and ASCII, as well as from any ODBC compliant application. Before import SPSS or SAS file, you need the corresponding ODBC Driver to be installed. ODBC Drivers are available for download from www.visualstat.com/download/archives.htm - Text-to-speech Engine needs Windows XP or later Text-to-speech is the ability of a computer to convert text information into synthetic speech output. The text-to-speech engine converts text in a cell to audio data, which is sent to an audio destination, such as a speaker, a headphone, or a telephone line. - NET Framework Language Packs Microsoft provides additional languages to .NET Framework (http://msdn.microsoft.com/netframework/downloads/) - Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later - Microsoft Help 2 Runtime (Integrated Help) - Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows ME, Windows NT 4.0 SP6, Windows 2000, Windows XP, Windows Server 2003 NOTE: You can get MS Help 2 runtime by installing dotNetSDK located in the "\Microsoft .NET Framework SDK" folder. Help 2 Runtime need to be installed first before install a full release of VisualStat. Upgrading VisualStat ------------------- Il you want to install VisualStat .NET over a previous version of VisualStat, please select a different installation folder. Installation from a CD ---------------------- To install VisualStat .NET from a CD: Step 1. Place the CD into the CD drive. Step 2. If AutoPlay for CDs is enabled, the VisualStat Setup automatically start. If AutoPlay for CDs is not enabled use Windows Explorer to navigate to the root directory of the CD. Then, double-click the setup.exe program. Step 3. The Welcome window for VisualStat appears. Click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears. NOTE: You can exit the Setup program at any time by clicking Cancel, or return to the previous window by clicking Back. Step 4. Follow the instructions on the screen Installation from Downloaded Files ---------------------------------- To install VisualStat .NET from downloaded files: Step 1. Download VisualStat installation package (visualstat.zip) from the electronic site and unzip it to a temporary directory, for example C:\TEMP Step 2. From Windows Explorer, navigate to this directory; then, double-click the setup.exe program. Step 3. The Welcome window for VisualStat appears. Click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears. NOTE: You can exit the Setup program at any time by clicking Cancel, or return to the previous window by clicking Back. Step 4. Follow the instructions on the screen Key Features of VisulStat .NET -------------------------------------- Check out the VisulStat .NET Help system for key features. Import SPSS and SAS DataBase ---------------------------- VisualStat imports data in all popular formats, including SAS, SPSS, Excel, and ASCII, as well as from any ODBC compliant application. Before import SPSS file, you need SPSS ODBC Driver to be installed. You can download it from SPSS Web site or install it from the VisualStat CD.
