System Requirements

In order to work correctly, VisualStat requires the following components:

The amount of drive space necessary for installing VisualStat depends on previous components installed on your system.
bulletMicrosoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or higher
bulletMicrosoft .NET Framework
The .NET Framework version 1.1 (named 1033dotnetfx.exe in the root directory of the installation package) is a component of the Microsoft Windows® operating system used to run Windows-based applications. This component is automatically installed by VisualStat.

 

Additional Software Requirements

To use additional features such as Integrated Help, Import Database, and Text-to-speech Engine, you will need the following additional software.

Integrated Help MS Help 2 Runtime, available for download from MSDN Developer Center.

This component is required if you want to use VisualStat Integrated Help. You can also display VisualStat NET help in html format (HTML File). MS Help 2.0 Runtime files must be installed before you can view MS Help 2 help files and collections. Currently the only way to get the Help 2 Runtime files onto a PC is to install the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK. You must install the Microsoft .NET Framework prior to installing the Microsoft .NET Framework SDK
 

Open Databases Microsoft® Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.7 or later

MDAC is a set of software components that are used to provide applications a means to access data from various data storage sources, with a focus on access to Microsoft SQL Server™.

You can import data to VisualStat from most data sources, including SAS, SPSS, Excel, and ASCII, as well as from any ODBC compliant application. Before import SPSS or SAS file, you need the corresponding ODBC Driver to be installed. ODBC Drivers are available for download from Archives.
 

Text-to-speech Engine Windows XP or later

Text-to-speech is the ability of a computer to convert text information into synthetic speech output. The text-to-speech engine converts text in a cell to audio data, which is sent to an audio destination, such as a speaker, a headphone, or a telephone line.

Install/Repair/Uninstall Steps

Before Installing VisualStat

Check the ReadMe html file that accompanies the product for more information.
bulletMake sure that you system Date/Time are set correctly
bulletClose all applications, including all virus detection programs and applications that are open in the system tray or on the Windows taskbar. Not doing so may increase the installation time and interfere with installation.
bulletOn Windows 2000 or XP, you should be logged in as an administrator or as a user with administrative rights. These privileges are required to update the registry with the new information being installed. See your system administrator if you are unsure.
bulletMake sure that you have enough free disk space available on the drive where you want to install the application.
bulletTo avoid file and memory conflicts, close all running programs and delete the contents of your system's TEMP folders. [C:\Documents and Settings\<Administrator>\Local Settings\Temp] and [C:\<WINNT>\Temp]

VisualStat recommends that you install VisualStat .NET 2005 in its own directory to avoid conflicts with previous versions.

Upgrading from a previous version of VisualStat

If you are installing VisualStat over a previous version, you might install VisualStat .NET in a folder (usually "C:\Program Files\VisualStat .NET\") other than this contents the previous version of VisualStat. This will not harm your system in any way.

Installation from a CD

Before you begin, read "Before installing VisualStat .NET" above. To install VisualStat .NET from a CD:
  1. Place the CD into the CD drive.
  2. If AutoPlay for CDs is enabled, the VisualStat Setup automatically start. If AutoPlay for CDs is not enabled use Windows Explorer to navigate to the root directory of the CD. Then, double-click the setup.exe program.
  3. The Welcome window for VisualStat appears. Click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears. NOTE: You can exit the Setup program at any time by clicking Cancel, or return to the previous window by clicking Back.
  4. Follow the instructions on the screen

Installation from Downloaded Files

Before you begin, read "Before installing VisualStat .NET" above. To install VisualStat .NET from downloaded files:
  1. Download VisualStat installation package (vstsetup.exe) from the electronic site. This archive is a SelF-eXtracting archive merged with an executable module, which is used to extract files from the archive when executed.
  2. Double-click the vstsetup.exe program and unzip the package to a temporary directory, for example C:\TEMP
  3. The Welcome window for VisualStat appears. Click Next to continue. The License Agreement window appears. Note that you can exit the Setup program at any time by clicking.

Uninstalling VisualStat

On the Windows taskbar, click Start > Control panel > Add or remove programs.
  1. If you want to keep your user files such as preferences, presets, user-created fills, and customized files, click Remove.
  2. If you want to remove user files, click Change, and then click Remove.
  3. If you want to repair installation in the program, click Change, and then click Repair.
  4. If you want to program features, click Change, and then click Modify.
